Date Your Husband & Link Up

The best marriage advice I ever received was from a friend who has been married over 25 years.  I’m not talking just married either- they are the type of couple who are still completely stupid for each other; giggling, holding hands, dancing, basically acting like newlyweds even though they have two grown kids type of love.

“Always be sure to date your husband.”

She attributed her successful marriage to the fact that once a week she and her husband had always gone out on a date, no matter their kids’ ages.  Unfortunately, I don’t have the time or resources to go out with my husband once a week.  Believe it or not, people are not knocking down your door offering to babysit your 3 rowdy boys once a week…even if they are adorable.  My husband and I do have a ritual of putting our kids to bed early enough that we can and spend at least a few adult time hours together every evening, and we have  an actual date night once a month.  … Read the rest

7 Most Effective Tactics to Boost Your Productivity

Productivity

Here’s the thing; I do A LOT!  I’m not saying this as in one of those lame Facebook status updates like, “Hooray, I did 3 loads of laundry today, cooked dinner, AND took my kids to school.” Those status updates make me laugh, although I’m sure I’ve actually written one a time or two.  People like that make me want to respond, “Congratulations, you’re an adult today!”

I’m also not saying this to brag because honestly-I’m no different than you.  No matter who you are you’re busy.  Ask anyone the question, “What have you been up to lately?”  They’ll respond with some variation of, “Oh, just keeping busy!”  It’s a buzz word that we are all so accustomed to using, but there’s a huge difference between being busy and being productive.  For many years I confused the two, thinking the more multi-tasking I could do, or the more obligations I could say yes to, the more productive I would become. … Read the rest

Making Gray Days Bright- Link Up

The dark days of winter….a little brighter

It’s that time of year where I would rather stay in my house than go ANYWHERE because it’s so cold my eyeballs instantly freeze, and the amount of kid gear I have to travel with in the winter makes me feel like I’m going on an excursion with Bear Grylls rather than a trip to Target.

However, Target always wins.  It always does.  You can go no longer than a few months without shopping at Target as a SAHM.  I’m pretty sure that’s an actual rule.  At least, that’s what I’m going to tell my husband!   Months have gone by since I’ve visited my old friend Tar-jay, and he was starting to get a little jealous.  Shopping at Target with a toddler should be easy right? Just load up the toys and snacks, grab yourself a Starby’s and you should be good to go for a couple of hours into the hypnotizing Target zone.  … Read the rest

How to Get Gorgeous Glowing Skin on the Go

Glow on!

Glow on the Go

If you look up the word busy in the dictionary, I’m pretty sure there’s a picture of a mom right next to it because we all know, moms are always busy.  Whether you’re a working mom, stay at home mom, or any mixture of the two, it’s always nonstop.  From sun up to sun down moms are always on the go, and most of the time we don’t have much time to take care of ourselves.  We need quick, easy fixes to keep us feeling beautiful without all the fuss.  The older I get, the more I realize how important taking care of your skin is.  Unfortunately, I abused my skin for years.  My teenage years and early twenties were spent lifeguarding in the hot sun or on the lake without sunscreen and piling on the tanning oil! YIKES!  Now, I pile on the sunscreen and hats whenever I’m outdoors to try and keep the sun damage at bay. … Read the rest

Winter Capsule Wardrobe

Capsule Wardrobe

an experiment in minimizing

So y’all know I’ve been talking about doing a capsule wardrobe for a long time now, and I finally did it!  What’s a capsule wardrobe you ask?  Well, it’s a mini version of your wardrobe, chosen with versatile mix and match pieces so you can minimize your time getting ready in the morning and maximize your closet space.  It seems like the movement towards minimizing is all the rage right now, and for good reason.  When you have less to choose from it becomes easier to pick out your outfits, and it allows you to spend your money on higher quality items versus getting a bunch of cheap clothing that only lasts one season.   Overall, they say this makes you a happier person and more grateful for what you have, and who doesn’t want to feel like that?

Why would i want to do this?

If you’ve ever stood in front of your closet and pouted that you have “nothing to wear.”  Then, take notes, because you NEED to create a capsule wardrobe for yourself.  … Read the rest

Quick Guide: Being A Boy Mom

boys jumping

I get asked, “What’s it like raising only boys?” at least once a day by someone, somewhere.  You’d think I’m the only person in the world who has only boys, like I’m raising 3 unicorns over here instead of 3 males and have infinite wisdom on raising mythical creatures.  In reality, raising 3 boys reminds me of my college days when I used to visit my now husband at his fraternity.  It’s loud, it’s messy, and there’s always something going on.   Ladies, they really are “born that way.”

Here’s what I’ve learned (so far) about what it’s like Being a Boy mom:

  • They’re Messy– You think your daughter is messy because there are hair bows and My Little Ponies all over your house? That’s cute.  My house looks like a nuclear explosive device went off and it’s only 9AM.  The mess that comes along with 3 boys is a given.

Fashion Link Up-Snow Bunny Gear!

Staying cozy in Indiana

Indiana finally got it’s first big snow fall of 2016.  We had a really mild December with temps in the 50s, so waking up to 5″ of snow was a big surprise today! I’m not a huge fan of cold weather, so you’ll find me hunkered down under a blanket most snowy days, just looking at the beautiful white powder, but tonight was GNO, so I had to get on some cozy snow bunny gear and head out.

I love how cozy this down filled vest is and I paired it with a classic white cotton t-shirt to keep the look crisp and wintery.  On bottom it’s hard to tell, but I layered on black knit leg warmers over my black skinny jeans.  It kind of makes my legs look bigger in the picture, but it was really cute in person….you’ll just have to trust me.    I also have this freakish fear that I’m going to slip and fall when I’m out in the snow so I HAVE to wear my Sorel snow boots, which are heavy duty and grippy (is that a word?)so I feel like I won’t wipe out and fall flat on my face!… Read the rest

A Makeup Tutorial; From Day to Night Look

Happy Monday lovelies!  Check out today’s tutorial on my YouTube channel and subscribe to Dlearn how to take your makeup look from day to night.  I’m not a huge “hey let’s go out tonight!” kinda gal.  I much prefer the couch over the club, but after a really long stressful day, I love to go out for a nice dinner with the hubby, see a movie with friends, or just take my kids somewhere and burn off some energy.  Sadly, by 5PM I look more like a watered down, exhausted version of my earlier self so I need to do a quick change up with my look.  It doesn’t take much time or effort, and it’s not a super fancy tutorial.  Just a basic way to show you how to get rid of any makeup that’s creased, flaked, or dulled out throughout the day and turned up a notch.

Also, let me apologize for posting so late today!  … Read the rest

Never Give Up! I’m Featured on Blogher!

My First Featured article

attitudesign

Never ever give up! Since starting this blog back inAugust of 2015, many of you may not know why this blog came about, unless you’ve been here since the very beginning.  One of my most popular articles I’ve ever written was called The Day the Strings Broke.  It talked about my journey with anxiety and panic disorder. It was my breakdown that lead me to a psychiatrist who suggested I find a hobby to use as a creative outlet to help with the anxiety. I’ve always loved writing and honestly, I got skipped on the crafty crochet gene that so many other women use as their creative outlet, so a blog seemed as good as anything to start getting a handle of my anxiety.I also wanted to help other women, because I know there are so many of us out there holding on to the weight of our problems.… Read the rest
